Yvette Lawrence is a multifaceted director with over 60 productions under her belt, with a body of work that spans everything from Shakespeare to Kaufman & Hart to devised theatre to full-scale musicals. This wide range of productions includes CINDERELLA for 5 Star Theatricals in Thousand Oaks, CA, HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING for the acclaimed Musical Theatre Guild, Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST starring Susan Egan for 5 Star Theatricals to critical acclaim and sold-out houses and she has received a Broadway World nomination for her direction of PETER PAN for Cabrillo Music Theatre. She has directed PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, THE CRUCIBLE, YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, and adapted productions of TWELFTH NIGHT, ROMEO AND JULIET, and MACBETH, to name a few. She has created in a variety of spaces from small 99 seat black box settings, large regional theaters, churches, community spaces, amphitheaters, lawns, the woods, parking lots, and even two full scale virtual productions; Ms. Lawrence has directed at every age level and has found the magic in each and every process and performance. As the late great Peter Brook once said, " I can take any empty space and call it a bare stage." Ms. Lawrence holds workshops, teaches master classes, and performs in self-directed, self-created solo concerts around the country. As a performer, she began her Broadway career in the original star-studded production of Arthur Laurent’s NICK & NORA creating the role of Maria Valdez. Also on Broadway, Yvette appeared as Cordelia with Mandy Patinkin and Heather MacRae in the original acclaimed production of FALSETTOS directed by James Lapine. After a short stint on Broadway in Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Ms. Lawrence went on to star in the award winning Los Angeles Production as Belle along side Tony winners Tom Bosley and Gary Beach. She has appeared as Audrey opposite Anthony Rapp in the National Touring Company of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS staged by Jerry Zaks and Kathleen Marshall. She has originated the role of Linda in the National Touring Production of BLOOD BROTHERS starring Petula Clark and David Cassidy for which she received a Jefferson Award Nomination, toured nationally in FALSETTOS with Adrian Zmed and played Frenchy in GREASE with Rex Smith. Yvette Lawrence originated the role of Inez in the Off-Broadway production BRING IN THE MORNING directed by Sheldon Epps and has performed principally at acclaimed regional theatres throughout the country. At the award winning NoHo Arts Center in Los Angeles she has originated the role of Wendy in DEPARTURES (World Premier) and Sally in the World Premier Musical LIZARD, both directed by James Mellon, and Chairy Barnum in BARNUM directed by Josh Prince, for which she received the Artistic Director Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical. For ABC’s “One Life to Live” she created the role of Sgt. Maggie Vega and has appeared in roles on “As the World Turns” and “The Guiding Light”. She has appeared principally in numerous national television commercials and she can be heard on Disney’s Phineas and Ferb, recordings of NICK & NORA (Original Broadway Cast), and A BROADWAY CHRISTMAS.
